My thoughts on the first season of 13 Reasons Why
I think a lot of people are misinterpreting what I meant regarding the suicide scene. First of all, I recognize that my diction makes me seem overly dismissive, and for that I apologize. When I say "If you want to judge art, judge it as art," I don't mean to discredit those criticizing the emotional impact the suicide scene would have on the mentally ill; I'm saying that few people are looking at it for its artistic merit, because from an artistic perspective it's the only conclusion to Hannah Baker's arc that could have properly punctuated everything we had seen before. From what I can tell, Netflix had two options: either don't show the suicide scene and fail artistically, or show the suicide scene and fail socially. I think the closest thing Netflix could come to a compromise was the trigger warning. Regarding the method of suicide, I don't have much credibility, but I would imagine that showing her take pills would make suicide seem easier and less revolting, potentially more enticing for those recovering from a harmful past. That said, I'm not sure 100% what the expert opinion is, and I could be completely wrong about that. Regardless, it all just supports my statement that trying to make propaganda in the form of art in this fashion simply does not work.

There may have been some confusion as to the publication of this article; it is published under babe.net, although I believe Babe is a group under Tab Media
